Transmit Culture
Transmit Culture is an ongoing series of conversations that illuminate the fascinating, ever-changing publishing industry. This series provides students in the graduate program in Book Publishing and the wider community with an opportunity to network and learn from leading publishing professionals. The series features a flexible format that might include a Q&A between two professionals, a lecture, or a panel discussion, though every event concludes with questions from the audience. Events in the series are offered on a quarterly basis, and they are always free and open to the public. Portland has an incredibly active literary community, and there are two or three literary events happening every night of the week. Yet there is surprisingly little discussion about book publishing at any of these events; Transmit Culture fills that gap.
Writers of Color Showcase
Literary Arts and Ooligan Press host an annual Oregon Writers of Color Spring Showcase, an event that features many of Oregon’s most talented, diverse writers and is designed to connect these artists with the publishers seeking to hear their voices. You can see video of the 2018 Showcase here.
Write to Publish
Write to Publish is an annual conference on publishing hosted by Ooligan Press, the student-run, nonprofit press at the heart of the Portland State University publishing program. The conference demystifies the publishing process for emerging writers and industry professionals and provides workshops, panels, and presentations from authors and industry professionals.
